League of Legends Markets

If you’re signed up with a bookmaker and ready to bet then you will need to know about the different LoL markets. Whether you’re looking to bet on live markets or prematch, we can tell you about all the League of Legends market options. In this index of content we explain what the different markets are so you know exactly which aspect of the game you are betting on.

We will be explaining all the markets you are likely going to find when placing your league of legends bets. As well as providing additional context to make sure you are extracting the most value.

League of Legends Prematch Betting

Firstly it’s important to define what prematch betting is. If you want to place prematch League of Legends bets it means that you want to place a wager on the action before the match has started, or before a certain map has begun. This will often mean that the markets will be open longer with slightly more stable odds.

There are several bookmakers who offer prematch LoL betting markets. But to find the most options then you need to find an esports betting site that is more intimately familiar with the games they offer. The bookmakers who have a strong focus on esports will offer a lot of different prematch LoL markets. Below is a list of many market types that you can find depending on the platform you are using. Remember that it is unlikely you will find all of these markets on the same betting operator, but if you know what you want to bet on that it can help you in your search.

What prematch LoL markets can I bet on?

The list below shows an enormous variety of League of Legends prematch betting markets. It is important to note that ‘Map X’ is indicative of any map within a competitive match. So you will often see the same LoL markets repeated across multiple maps.

Main Markets

  • Match Winner/Moneyline – Moneyline is commonly used to describe a market for the overall winner of a match.
  • Map Handicap – This is an advantage or disadvantage given by the bookmaker to the team you are betting on. E.g. +1.5 for Team A in a Best of 3 means you will win the bet even if the real score is Team A losing 1 – 2. This is because the preset advantage would bring them to 2.5 – 2 and winning over the opposite team. -1.5 means that they would have to win 2 – 0 over the other team to give them a 0.5 advantage (and winning the bet!).
  • Total Maps Over/Under – How many maps will there be in a series. Over or under the amount stated in the market.
  • Correct Map Score – Betting on the exact series score between 2 teams.
  • Odd/Even maps – Will the amount of maps played in a series be an odd number or an even number.
  • Team A/B Match Total Kills – How many total kills will there be in a series for a team you are specifying.
  • Match Total Kills Over/Under – How many total kills will there be in a series defined by whether it is over or under the amount stated.

Map Markets

  • Map X – Winner – Which team will win a specified map.
  • Map X – First Blood – Which team gets the first kill.
  • Map X – Total Kills Odd/Even – Are the total kills in a specified map going to be an odd or even number.
  • Map X – Win Map + Total Kills Odd/Even – Betting on a combination of which team is going to win the map and will the total kills be odd or even.
  • Map X – Win Map + Map Duration Over/Under – Betting on a combination of which team is going to win the map and will the map last for over or under a specified amount of time by the bookmaker.
  • Map X – Kills Handicap – As explained in ‘Map Handicap’, this is betting on which team will have the most kills after the virtual advantage or disadvantage has been accounted for by the market.

Specialised Markets

  • Map X – Total Barons Slain – How many Barons are killed.
  • Map X – Total Dragons Slain – How many Dragons are killed.
  • Map X – Race To X Kills – Which team will be the first to get to a certain amount of kills.
  • Map X – Map Duration Over/Under – Will the specified map last over or under a certain amount of time indicated in the market.
  • Map X – Total Kills Over/Under – Will the total amount of kills between the two teams be over or under the amount specified in the market.
  • Map X – First Baron – Which team will kill the Baron first.
  • Map X – Total Towers – How many total towers will be destroyed.
  • Map X – First Inhibitor Destroyed – Which team will destroy an Inhibitor first.
  • Map X – First Turret Destroyed – Which team will destroy a tower first.
  • Map X – First Dragon Slayed – Which team will kill a Dragon first.
  • Map X – Quadra Kill – Will there be a Quadra Kill (a player getting 4 kills in a short space of time).
  • Map X – Penta Kill – Will there be a Penta Kill (a player getting 5 kills in a short space of time).
  • Map X – Both Teams To Destroy An Inhibitor? – Will both teams destroy an Inhibitor.
  • Map X – Both Teams To Kill A Baron? – Will both teams kill the Baron.
  • Map X – Both Teams To Kill An Elemental Dragon? – Will both teams kill an Elemental Dragon.
  • Map X – Will Either Team Slay The Elder Dragon? – Will either team kill the Elder Dragon.

Pros and Cons of LoL Prematch Betting

Pros:

  • Prematch betting markets are open for much longer than live betting markets. This means you do not have to be as eagle-eyed to find the market you’re looking for.
  • If you are a casual bettor then it is easier to make the time for prematch betting. This is because you do not have to commit to watching a match live at the scheduled time. You can place your bet early and await your results after the match is over!
  • While the odds can shift over time, it is not as abrupt and difficult to understand as live betting. This means you can more easily understand if you’re getting good value from your prediction.
  • There are a lot more prematch markets available for League of Legends! Live betting models are still being refined by bookmakers. If you have a specific prediction then it is more likely you will find it in the prematch markets.

Cons:

  • If you are a casual bettor who places their bets and is unable to watch the game, that can provide a large information gap and prevent you from improving your knowledge for the next wager you place.
  • You might feel bad about the bets you are placing if you do watch the live action. Small changes in the game might make you think twice about your previous decision. If you were to live bet instead then you might feel more confident.
  • It is harder to take advantage of unique chances the appear when the action is unfolding.

What LoL live betting markets can I wager on?

Also known as in-play betting, live esports betting is becoming more and more popular. In recent years it has surpassed the popularity of prematch betting. Although the amount of markets available will not be great as prematch betting, you will still have several options. It is worth noting that the list will be shorter and have similar markets, but for the larger events you will be able to place bets on these markets while the matches and maps are in play.

You can find the full definitions of these markets above in the prematch betting section.

  • Match Winner/Moneyline
  • Correct Map Score
  • Odd/Even maps
  • Map X – Winner
  • Map X – First Blood
  • Map X – Total Kills Odd/Even
  • Map X – Win Map + Total Kills Odd/Even

Pros and Cons of LoL Live Betting

Pros

  • Live betting is a lot more exciting than prematch betting. You can engage in the action in a fresh way compared to prematch.
  • You can react quickly to actions in-game and adjust the bets you want to make. It provides more opportunity to capitalise on the what’s happening.
  • If you are an experienced bettor and you know the game and teams well, you will have a better chance to capitalise and build a return on your investment.

Cons

  • For online events there can be several minutes of delay from the streams you are watching versus the markets and odds available on the bookmaker platform you are using. Some operators might offer live data widgets that can help counter this!
  • While very exciting – it can be easy to get caught up in the action. Make sure to set strict limits on what you’re willing to risk in a live match.
  • It is harder to get strong returns on live betting if you are more of a recreational punter. Make sure you know as much about the game as possible before diving too deep.
